About Made By Mason

Hi, my name is Mason. I'm a 17-year-old Carpentry and Joinery student and the proud owner of Made By Mason, a business I established in 2023 when I was just 14 years old.

My passion for woodworking actually began a year earlier in a tiny, run-down shed at home. Armed with a few basic hand tools, my very first project was a small wooden axe made from a tree branch and an off cut of pallet wood. It wasn't perfect, and it was incredibly simple, but it marked the beginning of something much bigger. To this day, that little axe sits proudly on a shelf in my bedroom as a reminder of where my journey started.

During the winter of 2023, my dad, Sam, and I began experimenting with ideas for handcrafted Christmas decorations and gifts. Most of our creations were made using foraged branches, pine cones, reclaimed timber and other natural materials. We worked underneath a tarpaulin in the garden day till night.

That Christmas, we took a chance and booked our first local Christmas fayre. Seeing people genuinely appreciate our handmade pieces was an incredible feeling. The support, encouragement and custom we received from our local community exceeded anything we could have imagined and gave us the confidence to continue growing Made By Mason.

The summer of 2024 marked a huge milestone. My dad surprised me by buying a log cabin, which together we built and transformed into the official Made By Mason workshop. After fitting it out with new tools and equipment, I finally had a dedicated space to design and create my work. Having a proper workshop allowed me to improve my skills, take on more ambitious projects and produce a wider range of handmade products.

That year's Christmas season was our busiest yet. We attended two festive events instead of one and managed to double our sales. It was amazing to see how much the business had grown in such a short space of time, and it motivated us to aim even higher.

As winter 2025 approached, we decided to make it our biggest year yet. Thanks to the continued support of our family, friends and loyal customers, we booked four Christmas events, including the UK's largest artisan market in Ruthin. It proved to be our most successful event to date, with record sales and the opportunity to introduce Made By Mason to hundreds of new customers. Seeing so many people choose something I had designed and handcrafted was amazing to see.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible support I've received along the way. Every purchase, kind word and recommendation has helped Made By Mason become what it is today. Most importantly, I owe a huge thank you to my dad, Sam, who has supported, encouraged and believed in me every step of this journey. From working under a tarpaulin in the garden to building our own workshop and attending the country's biggest Artisan markets we've built Made By Mason together.

Although I'm still studying Carpentry and Joinery, this is only the beginning of what I hope Made By Mason will become. My ambition is to continue developing my skills, investing in new tools and techniques, and expanding the range of handcrafted products I offer. I also hope to take on more bespoke commissions, attend even more artisan markets across the UK, and continue building a business that people recognise for quality craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Every project I create teaches me something new, and every customer who chooses Made By Mason plays a part in helping that journey continue. I'm excited to see where the future leads, but one thing will always stay the same, every piece will be thoughtfully designed, carefully handcrafted, and made with the same passion that started in a small shed with that little wooden axe.
